WARNING: Coinbase publicly publishes names and emails

The Genesis Block

Many Coinbase.com users have been receiving phishing attacks – emails claiming to be from Coinbase that request personal information.  Coinbase’s blog public acknowledged this problem yesterday:

What is more disturbing is how easy it is to retrieve personal information from people using Coinbase accounts.  A quick google search of the coinbase checkout demonstrates how easy this to find.

Clicking one of the results will provide transaction information including email accounts, phone numbers, and sometimes even personal addresses.

We would highly recommend not using Coinbase until this issue is resolved.
